Let's talk about how fucking awesome that show is! Some people complain that there is too much drama and not enough zombie killing, but I like the drama part, it's kinda more realistic. In season one where the guy is about to kill his zombie wife but he just can't do it, wow! That part was heart breaking!! What does everyone else think?

Yep, I am following it as well. Our counter guy has been complaining about the increased drama and decreased zombies. I just had to point out the huge horde of zombies that are after Shane and Otis.

Kind of hard to keep the zombie killing fresh and convincing when you're having to equal or top the most recent shovel-to-the-head scene. Mixing it up a bit is more interesting for viewers and not as expensive.

And if they spend a lot of time making viewers care about the characters, it's more fun when they kill them. Very Happy

What I need to know is, when did zombies get so FAST. laughing Those zombies have world class speed.
I liked the way they gave a "medical explanation" for how the zombies exist.
And I sure hope we see more of Merle, he was a hoot!

I have to admit that I did not see Carl getting shot coming at all so that was a "wha?!" moment for me. Things are dragging a bit though. Still, they can't stay at that farmhouse forever so there's hope that the plot will gain steam.

And yes: those zombies are way too fast! Defying Romero's Rules all over the place.

You guys are aware this is based on a bad ass comic that has been going on for 6 years now right? I was hesitant to like the show because I'm a huge fan of the book, but I have to admit that they are doing a bang up job.. aside from a few points they really keep it true to the original story. NONE of the characters are safe.

I highly recommend the comic, only downside is its a huge spoiler for the show. Robert kirkman is a fucking genius.

I knew about the comic, but hadn't read it.

Now I think it's too late to read the series, as I'm sucked into how they're presenting it on TV. But I like being surprised, and it's cool that "no one is safe!"

Too much of what's on TV isn't even a little bit challenging.

So the "mid-season" finale was crazy! I about shit my pants when Sophia walked out of the barn at the end. It was pretty sad and it was a really powerful scene. Made me feel really bad for her mother, they have made her character so kind and likable. I'm hoping someone (Shane) kicks the shit out of Hershel for not telling them that she was in the barn.

Thoughts?

Oh, and I'm with Shopwidow, I would love to read the comic, but I want to find out what happens via the tv show. But that doesn't mean I can't go back and read the stuff that has already happened.

Word of God (the creators) is that Hershel didn't know. Otis was wrangling them all up and putting them in the barn but not telling details of all of them to Hershel. Shane took out Otis before he knew they were looking for a missing little girl. Nobody knew she was in there other than Otis, apparently.

Ooooooh, that makes sense. Either way I'm pissed that we have to wait till Feb. for the show to start back up. Oh well.

Yes, sad that Sophie was in the barn -- but I think we all sort of knew she was a goner some time ago. I guess these folks are going to be moving on now.

On a different note, how long before someone kills Shane? Very Happy

Nooo, not Shane. He's the best character on the show. He and Daryl are the only two with any grit. I wanna see Dale go. He's such an annoying old fuck. Or Hershel, he's a pretty annoying fuck too.

I agree it would be a shame to lose the more interesting characters, but honestly? When folks are in survival mode, "interesting" is more of a threat than than "predictable."

Maybe now I'll have to read the series, just to satisfy my curiosity!

Dale is the only character that I feel needs to go. He's like a needy ex that just won't go away.

Just found out that there are additional webisodes on the AMC site. Guess I know what I'm doing this evening! (Almost makes up for the fact that I stumbled across a SPOILER when I found it.)

the trouble with this is that they're not holding exactly to the comic. they're using the basic framework of the story. for example, there is no "Darryl" in the books.

It's ba--a-ack.

Has this show jumped the shark? The season premiere was just sort of "meh" -- the new characters could have been interesting but I don't know that they really planned to do anything with them (given that they killed 3 and chased all but one off). The core characters haven't changed for a while-- where are all these 'no one is safe' moments?

The comic is waaayyyy more graphic than the show could ever be... If you like the show you will like the comic. Definitely check it out!
